Walk Ride - the clue is in the name! WRPW are championing walking and cycling because we think there are benefits for everyone if we make more of our journeys this way. We think that considering walking and cycling before buses, taxis, delivery vehicles and trucks is the best, greenest and healthiest way of planning transport for us all. And we are really pleased that the Department of Transport and Transport for Greater Manchester share these opinions! Have a look at the DfT's Gear Change policy document and TfGMs Active Travel plans including the Bee Network.

For over 100 years car use has grown and grown. The love affair isn't going to end overnight. But if together we make more allowance for feet and pedals, and make some adjustments on on choices of when we drive, how long it takes and where we go it will be good for us all.

So, here's some tips and thoughts:
  • Don't block pavements when you park - think about a double-buggy or wheelchair having to get past
  • If you are on a bike - don't ride on the pavement so people have to get out of your way!
  • If you do the school run try walking instead of driving and definitely do not try to park as close to school as possible. Traffic levels drop noticeably during school holidays.
  • Nearly all of us in Prestwich and Whitefield live less than 15 minutes walk from the shops. So leave the car at home as much as you can when popping out for that loaf of bread!
